چکیده

The Permanent Scatterers (PS) technique is a powerful operational tool that exploits long series of SAR data for monitoring ground deformations with millimetre accuracy on a high spatial density grid of point-wise targets. The technique has been applied successfully to a number of applications from subsidence and volcano monitoring to slow-landslide detection. Aim of this work is to analyse the location capability of the PS technique, applied to the generation of urban elevation maps. The problem of the univocal identification of the PS position (discarding side lobes) is addressed and an easy and efficient solution is proposed. The results obtained in the Milan site (from ERS and Envisat data coherently combined) allow to appreciate the very high quality of an urban DEM retrieved with the PS technique. The ground level of the city is identified with sub-meter precision, and upper-level targets, where present, reveal the buildings profile. The estimated city street level (ranging ±3m in 16x18km) is then compared with those obtained with the same technique using a descending parallel track and an ascending track.

Automated Dem Extraction of Urban Areas from Multi Resolution Satellite Images

This paper reports experiments carried out for automated extraction of a digital elevation model (DEM) from satellite images. In particular, this paper focuses on DEM extraction from dense urban areas where there are occlusions, shadow and height discontinuities. These properties have been known to create many problems in stereo matching and for automated DEM extraction. Using satellite images ...

Extracting Urban Morphology for Atmospheric Modeling from Multispectral and Sar Satellite Imagery

This paper presents an approach designed to derive an urban morphology map from satellite data while aiming to minimize the cost of data and user interference. The approach will help to provide updates to the current morphological databases around the world. The proposed urban morphology maps consist of two layers: 1) Digital Elevation Model (DEM) and 2) land cover map. Sentinel-2 data was used...

Detecting Complex Building Shapes in Panchromatic Satellite Images for Digital Elevation Model Enhancement

Since remote sensing field provides new sensors and techniques to accumulate data on urban region, three-dimensional representation of these regions gained much interest for various applications. Three-dimensional urban region representation can be used for detailed urban monitoring, change and damage detection purposes. In order to obtain three-dimensional representation, one of the easiest an...

A Software System for Efficient Dem Segmentation and Dtm Estimation in Complex Urban Areas

Digital Elevation Models are a central information source for scene analysis, including specific tasks such as building localization and reconstruction. Whatever application is envisaged, DEM segmentation is a critical step, due to the great variability of landscapes and above-ground structures in urban areas. Moreover, a DEM may contain erroneous isolated 3D points, which have to be identified...

Building Detection from High Resolution Digital Elevation Models in Urban Areas

This paper describes an algorithm which aims at deriving digital terrain models (DTM) from dense digital elevation models (DEM). This algorithm takes place in a processing chain for building detection and modelling in urban areas from high resolution aerial imagery. DEM either come from stereophotogrammetry, or from direct measures such as airborne laser data. DTM are computed as low order freq...

Utilization of Lidar Dem for Sar Image Analysis in Dense Urban Areas

The increasing resolution of SAR data opens the possibility to utilise this data for scene interpretation in urban areas. Different SAR specific phenomena like foreshortening, layover, shadow and multipath-propagation burden the interpretation. For many urban areas detailed additional information is available which can support both the mission planning and the analysis of the acquired SAR data ...
